Woman, 10-month-old daughter found murdered in abandoned farmhouse in Raigarh; police launch probe

Raipur: A 35-year-old woman and her 10-month-old daughter were found murdered inside an abandoned borewell house on the outskirts of Chaparpani village under Lailunga police station limits in Raigarh district, prompting police to register a murder case and launch an intensive investigation.

Taking serious note of the double murder, Raigarh SSP Shashi Mohan Singh is personally monitoring the investigation and has directed police officers to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.

According to police, the case came to light after Budhiyaro Nagvanshi (42) lodged a complaint at Lailunga police station on July 16. She told police that her cousin, Barat Kumari (35), had been living with her parents after the death of her husband 4–5 years ago. Police said she was reportedly suffering from mental health issues and often wandered around the village. She had been staying in an abandoned borewell house located in the agricultural field of Prahlad Behera.

The complainant stated that while returning home with rice from Sukwans on the morning of July 16, a villager informed her that Barat Kumari had been assaulted and was bleeding from her head and face. She and other villagers rushed to the spot and found the woman with severe head and facial injuries, apparently caused by a heavy blunt object.

Her 10-month-old daughter, Pari, who was lying beside her, was also found with grievous injuries and had died at the scene, police said.

Following the information, Dharamjaigarh SDOP Siddhant Tiwari, along with the Lailunga police, reached the spot. A Forensic Science Team and a Dog Squad examined the crime scene and collected crucial physical evidence.

Police have registered a case against an unidentified accused under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to murder. The investigation is underway.

Later, SSP Shashi Mohan Singh visited Lailunga police station, questioned suspects, and reviewed the progress of the investigation. Police said several suspects are being interrogated and scientific and technical evidence is being analysed to establish the identity of the perpetrator.

“The police team is investigating every possible angle with utmost seriousness. The accused will be identified and arrested soon on the basis of all available scientific and technical evidence,” the SSP said.
