Student and citizen safety is the government’s top priority, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai said today, directing officials to identify potential hazards and take proactive measures rather than waiting for mishaps to occur.
The chief minister was addressing a high-level review meeting with divisional commissioners, inspector generals of police, collectors, and superintendents of police through video conferencing from his official residence.
The chief minister instructed officials to conduct immediate safety audits and inspections of hostels, paying guest accommodations, coaching institutes, schools, and large educational buildings across all districts. He directed that any safety deficiencies found must be rectified within a set timeframe.
Collectors and superintendents of police must personally monitor the progress in their districts to ensure effective ground-level implementation. The chief minister also directed authorities to assess the condition of old and dilapidated public structures, including schools and libraries, and take immediate action where risks exist.
The chief minister called for a strict, statewide joint campaign by the police, excise, and district administration against illegal and adulterated liquor. He ordered joint raids in vulnerable areas and increased surveillance along border regions and transport routes to curb the inflow of illicit liquor from neighbouring states.
Strict action will be taken against officials showing negligence or indifference in carrying out these directives, the chief minister warned.
Chief secretary Vikas Sheel, additional chief secretary (panchayat and rural development) Richa Sharma, additional chief secretary (forest) Manoj Kumar Pingua, principal secretary to the chief minister Subodh Kumar Singh, special secretary Rajat Bansal, and joint secretary Prabhat Malik attended the meeting.
