Police Crack Serial Burglary Case in Raigarh, Arrest Suspect from Rajnandgaon

Raipur

Raigarh police have solved a serial burglary case in the Gharghoda area with the arrest of a 32-year-old man from Chichola bus stand in Rajnandgaon district. Stolen property worth ₹6,30,286 has been recovered.

The suspect, Satish Chauhan, a resident of Barpali Nawadih under Gharghoda police station limits, allegedly broke into two grocery shops at Jaistambh Chowk on the night of 23 August 2026. Taking advantage of heavy rainfall, Chauhan cut through the tin sheet roofs and false ceilings of Santosh Kirana Store and Gokulchand Mamraj Kirana Store. He fled with cash, silver items, and grocery products. Police registered cases under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A joint police team led by Dharamjaigarh SDOP Siddhant Tiwari, Cyber DSP Shikhar Maravi, and Gharghoda Inspector Kumar Gaurav Sahu examined footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras. The footage helped the team identify Chauhan, who had covered his face with a scarf. Investigation revealed that he bought a mobile phone worth ₹19,300 in Lailunga using the stolen money before fleeing to Nagpur.

A Raigarh police team tracked Chauhan from Nagpur to Rajnandgaon, where they caught him at Chichola bus stand. During interrogation, Chauhan confessed to the break-ins, stating he regularly visited the two shops as a customer and planned the burglary targeting their cash counters. Police recovered ₹2,64,146 in cash, 1.508 kg of silver valued at ₹3,46,840, a smartphone, and the cloth used during the crime. Chauhan was produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh said technical surveillance and coordinated team efforts enabled the police to trace and arrest the suspect across district lines and recover the stolen property.
