RAIPUR
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, in collaboration with Chhattisgarh Police, organised a cyber awareness programme titled ‘Cyber Jagriti – Cyber Security and Awareness’ on the institute campus on Thursday.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dayaldas Baghel attended the event as the chief guest. Raipur Police Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Shukla, NIT Raipur Officiating Director Dr Sameer Bajpai, DCP (West) Robinson Guria, and ADCP (Cyber) Dr Gaurav Mandal were among the key officials present.
Addressing the gathering, officials alerted students about emerging tactics used by cyber criminals, including phishing, OTP and UPI fraud, social media identity theft, sextortion, and ‘digital arrest’ scams.
ADCP Dr Gaurav Mandal highlighted that cyber fraudsters exploit human psychology, leveraging greed, fear, urgency, and a lack of awareness to target victims. He urged people to immediately dial 1930 or log onto the national cyber crime reporting portal if they fall prey to financial fraud.
Police Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Shukla described cyber fraud as a global challenge, noting that retrieving money transferred out of the country becomes extremely difficult. He called awareness the primary defence against digital crimes and urged students to register as cyber volunteers to spread consciousness among their families and communities.
NIT Raipur Officiating Director Dr Sameer Bajpai encouraged students to take up active roles as cyber volunteers to promote safe digital practices.
Chief Guest Dayaldas Baghel advised citizens not to share sensitive information, such as OTPs, PINs, or passwords, with unknown individuals.
The programme was coordinated by ADCP (West) Rahul Dev Sharma, ACP (Azad Chowk) Ishu Agrawal, along with NIT Raipur Associate Professor Dr Rupesh Kumar Dewangan and Assistant Professor Dr Nitesh K Bharadwaj. The event concluded with the presentation of mementos to the guests and the recital of the National Anthem.
