Three arrested in interstate fake medicine racket

Raipur, 14 April 2026
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues its crackdown on the illegal trade of counterfeit medicines across the state. Officials arrested three individuals in Raipur on Monday for their involvement in an organized supply chain linked to a major seizure of fake drugs from Nagpur Golden Transport, Gogaon earlier this year.
The arrested suspects are Rochak Agrawal of Bijrasan Medicos, Indore; Surendra Kamnani of Prem Prakash Agency, Bhatapara; and Khemraj Bani of Saraswati Medical Store, Sarangarh.
The department initiated a detailed investigation into Saraswati Medical Store in Sarangarh last December. During the inspection, officials discovered evidence of storage and distribution of suspicious and counterfeit drugs. These items were seized and added to the ongoing investigation.
Considering the interstate links of this illicit trade, the team expanded its probe beyond state borders. Officers are now examining the roles of the suspects and the larger network involved based on collected evidence.
Prosecution proceedings against the accused are currently underway. The FDA is also identifying other individuals and entities connected to the racket and will take legal action against them.
The Food and Drug Administration has advised the public to purchase medicines only from authorized medical stores and to report any suspicious activity. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to strict action against counterfeit drug trade.
