RAIPUR
Raipur Municipal Corporation presented its solid waste management and urban sanitation practices at IFAT India 2026, held in Mumbai from 9 to 11 September 2026.
Additional Commissioner Vinod Kumar Pandey and Swachh Bharat Mission Executive Engineer Yogesh Kadu represented the civic body in technical sessions, panel discussions, and exhibitions.
The event is an international platform for environmental technology, sanitation, and waste management. During the three-day convention, officials examined modern technological solutions for implementation in Raipur based on local feasibility.
Technological innovations studied by the team include floating trash barriers to intercept waste in rivers and water bodies, water quality sensor-based mobile systems for real-time monitoring of water sources, ICT-based digital monitoring systems for infrastructure projects, and trenchless pipe laying techniques for water supply and sewerage network expansion.
Participating as a panellist in a roundtable discussion titled “From Clean Cities to Circular Cities: The Future of Sanitation and Solid Waste Management in India”, Additional Commissioner Vinod Kumar Pandey presented Raipur’s municipal sanitation initiatives.
Himanshu Chaturvedi, Associate Partner at KPMG, moderated the discussion. Other panellists included Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation; Yamini Verma, General Manager at Srishti Waste Management Services; Dr Ramesh Kumar, Director at RCUES-AIILSG, Mumbai; Mahesh L Narvekar, Director of Disaster Management and Control Room Department; Harsh Vardhan, Chief Executive Officer of CDD Society; and Shobha Raghavan, Chief Executive Officer of Saahas Zero Waste.
Pandey outlined Raipur’s practices in source-level waste segregation, door-to-door collection, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centres, community-driven cleanliness drives, resource recovery projects, and circular economy models. Experts and municipal delegates present acknowledged the city’s operational initiatives.
Participation in the event provided the municipal body with insights into international practices in sanitation, waste management, water conservation, and digital infrastructure monitoring.
