RAIPUR
Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh, known for its dense forests, hills, and waterfalls, is drawing a growing number of tourists to its Ranidah Waterfall. Located around 15 km from Jashpur Nagar, the site has become a preferred destination for nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, and trekkers seeking a quiet getaway.
The journey to Ranidah takes visitors through hills, dense sal forests, and winding roads. The waterfall features streams cascading down high rocks, creating a scenic view that becomes particularly prominent during the monsoon season, when the water flow splits into multiple streams.

Rooted in local folklore
Ranidah holds a significant place in local folklore and cultural heritage. According to local belief, Princess Rani Shiromani of Odisha reached these hills in the past. To protect her self-respect while being pursued by her father and five brothers, she reportedly jumped into the deep gorge.
Following this incident, the site came to be known as Ranidah, meaning the queen’s waterfall. Local residents still refer to a cluster of rocks near the waterfall as “Paanch Bhaiya” to symbolise the princess’s five brothers.
A preferred weekend getaway
The location has evolved into a popular picnic spot for families and youth, especially during weekends and the monsoon months. Visitors frequent the area for relaxation, trekking, and photography in a clean natural environment.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed officials to focus on developing the state’s natural and religious tourism destinations. Sites like Ranidah in Jashpur are contributing to the expanding tourism map of Chhattisgarh, offering visitors a blend of natural landscapes and local cultural history.
