Former India Cricketer Amay Khurasiya to Lead Chhattisgarh as Head Coach

Raipur
The Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh has appointed former India international Amay Khurasiya as the new head coach, aiming to strengthen the state’s cricketing structure and nurture emerging talent.

According to an official press release issued on Wednesday, Khurasiya’s appointment follows detailed discussions between the state association and the former cricketer on long-term development plans. The move is expected to provide young players in Chhattisgarh access to high-quality coaching and professional mentorship.

Khurasiya, who represented India in the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup, brings with him extensive playing and coaching experience. He featured in 12 One Day Internationals between 1999 and 2001 and played 119 first-class matches during a domestic career spanning nearly two decades. He also captained the India-A side in the SAARC Cricket Tournament in Bangladesh, where the team finished as joint winners.

As a coach, Khurasiya has built a strong reputation over the past 23 years. Notably, during his tenure, Kerala reached the Ranji Trophy final for the first time in the tournament’s 74-year history. He also served as head coach of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association for a decade, where he played a key role in grooming several top players, including Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer, and Avesh Khan, all of whom have progressed to higher levels of competitive cricket.

A BCCI Level-C certified coach, Khurasiya is known for his emphasis on disciplined training and grassroots talent development. Officials believe his appointment will significantly boost the state’s cricketing prospects.

Speaking on his new role, Khurasiya said that Chhattisgarh has immense untapped potential. He expressed gratitude to the association for entrusting him with the responsibility and added that he looks forward to shaping the next generation of cricketers.

Senior officials of the association, including directors and committee members, were present during the announcement. The appointment marks a strategic push by the state body to elevate Chhattisgarh’s presence in domestic cricket.
