Raipur
Raipur District has become the first in the country to digitally register public transport vehicles in a major safety drive, completing 15,047 auto and e-rickshaw registrations in just 15 days.
The feat has been entered into the Golden Book of World Records.
Raipur Police Commissioner Dr Sanjiv Shukla launched the second phase of the initiative at the Traffic Office complex, Kalibadi, introducing QR code stickers for registered vehicles to build a safe and orderly public transport system.

The first phase of the registration drive began on 20 May 2026. Over the next fortnight, coordinated efforts by auto unions, drivers, and traffic police led to the completion of 15,047 registrations.
The QR codes will be pasted on all autos and e-rickshaws. Commuters can scan the QR code using a smartphone camera before or during a journey to view the complete details of the driver.
Police officials stated that the initiative aims to curb criminal activities occasionally reported in these vehicles and enhance public safety. Passengers can save a photograph of the QR code, making it easier to contact the vehicle owner if belongings are left behind.
The department has advised citizens to use only QR-coded vehicles for their safety.
In the next phase, the administration will provide identity cards to drivers and earmark dedicated auto stands. Officials expect the initiative to establish traffic discipline and aid crime control.
Awareness films released
Dr Sanjiv Shukla also screened short awareness films focused on traffic awareness, cybercrime, women’s safety, and road safety. These films will be broadcast across social media, digital screens, shopping malls, and multiplexes to promote discipline and public safety.
Additional Police Commissioner Amit Tukaram Kamble, DCP (North) Mayank Gurjar, DCP (West) Sandeep Patel, DCP (Crime) Smritik Rajnala, ADCP (Headquarters) Archana Jha, and DCP (Traffic and Protocol) Vivek Shukla attended the event.
Representatives from the business and medical sectors were also present, including NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital CEO Yuvraj Khemka, Sudhir Sultania of Vishwa Gita Ispat Limited, Prakash Agrawal of Hira Ispat Limited, and Pankaj Agrawal of Sagar TMT.
Auto union leaders Kamal Pandey and Narayan Soni also attended. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Seema Ahirwar delivered the vote of thanks.
