Four held in Raipur for running fake matrimonial sites linked to mule bank accounts; over 500 victims across India

Raipur। Acting under ‘Operation Cyber Shield’, the Raipur Range Police has arrested four accused from Odisha, Gujarat, Bilaspur, and Raipur for their alleged involvement in a mule bank account racket used for large-scale cyber fraud and money laundering activities controlled by Chinese nationals through APK-based applications.
According to officials, the police have traced transactions worth crores of rupees across more than 500 bank accounts, which were being used for fraudulent online activities. During raids at Gole Chowk and Katora Talab, police sealed two offices and recovered 50 mobile phones, 10 desktop computers, several SIM cards, and 60 bank account kits from the accused.
The investigation, directed by Inspector General of Police (Raipur Range) Amresh Mishra, revealed that the accused had duped people across multiple states through fake matrimonial websites, including www.erishtaa.com, www.jeevanjodi.com, and www.royalrishtey.com. Using these platforms, they allegedly displayed doctored photos of brides and grooms to defraud users seeking marriage alliances.
FIRs have been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at DD Nagar police station (79 mule accounts linked to HDFC Bank; Case No. 424/25) and Azad Chowk police station (17 mule accounts linked to South Indian Bank; Case No. 283/25). The Range Cyber Police Station, Raipur, is conducting the investigation.
During interrogation and digital analysis, it was found that the gang operated mule bank accounts across various Indian cities for money laundering on behalf of Chinese handlers, who remotely controlled the accounts using APK-based applications. Each participant received a commission based on the volume of fraudulent transactions.
The police are also obtaining details from banks regarding accounts showing unusual or large-scale transactions. Several more individuals suspected of facilitating these fraudulent accounts have been identified, and further arrests are expected.
The arrested accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
