IED blast kills DRG jawan, three injured in Bijapur

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed and three others injured after a pressure improvised explosive device (IED), planted by Naxals, exploded in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred on Sunday morning in the jungles of Ullur, under the Bhopalpatnam police station area.
The DRG team was on a search operation as part of an anti-Naxal campaign when the blast occurred. Jawan Dinesh Nag, 38, died on the spot after he stepped on the IED. The three injured jawans were shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bhopalpatnam. Police officials said the condition of the injured jawans is stable and they are out of danger. They may be referred to Jagdalpur for advanced medical care.
Dinesh Nag was a resident of Ward Number 15 in the Bijapur district headquarters.
The incident comes at a time when operations against Naxals have intensified in the Bastar region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a deadline of 31 March 2026 to eliminate Naxalism from the country.
On 6 August, a Naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Gangalur police station area of Bijapur district. The body and weapons of the slain Naxal were recovered.
On 26 July, four Naxals, including two women, carrying a collective reward of Rs 17 lakh, were killed in an operation in the Basaguda area of Bijapur. INSAS and SLR rifles, along with a large cache of arms and explosives, were recovered from the encounter site.
On 18 July, six Naxals were killed in an encounter in Abujhmad, Narayanpur district. Security forces recovered AK-47 and SLR automatic weapons from the location.
Recently, nine Naxals, including a woman, surrendered in Bijapur, fearing encounters. Six of them had rewards of Rs 24 lakh on their heads.
