UNICEF launches #RedDotChallenge to promote menstrual hygiene

Raipur, India – 25 May 2023: UNICEF has launched a week-long #RedDotChallenge campaign to promote menstrual hygiene in Chhattisgarh. As part of the challenge, UNICEF urges everyone to take a photo with a red dot on their palm and share it in the social media platforms including WhatsApp groups. The campaign, beginning from 25 May, coincides with the World Menstrual Hygiene (MH) Day on 28 May.
Stating that menstruation is a natural biological process that millions of girls and women experience daily, Job Zachariah, Chief of UNICEF Chhattisgarh, emphasized the urgent need to dispel taboos and misconceptions associated with menstruation. ” We need to break the silence around menstrual hygiene, as it is critical for the health of girls and women. It is also a fundamental right of girls and women,” said Zachariah.
Over one lakh youth volunteers across Chhattisgarh will take up the #RedDotChallenge in the weeklong campaign. This includes the youth cadre of ‘Yuvoday’ in Bastar district, ‘BijaDuteer’ in Bijapur, ‘Kondanar Champs’ in Kondagaon district, ‘JayHo’ in Jashpur District, Kavir in Kabirdham district, Blue Brigade youth of NSS, and ‘Yuva Goth’ volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra.
Hundreds of youth volunteers of Yuvoday took the #RedDotChallenge in front of the majestic Chitrakoot Waterfalls. This symbolic gesture represented their dedication to break barriers and promote good menstrual hygiene practices.
