Raipur police have arrested Shoaib Dhebar (26) for demanding a ransom of ₹25 crore from a local resident and threatening his family.
Complainant Anandmal Kukreja approached the Telibandha police station reporting that he received threatening WhatsApp messages from an international number on 14 September 2026. The sender claimed links with the Aman Sahu gang and demanded ₹25 crore in extortion. The sender threatened to kill Kukreja, his son Ajit, and other family members if the demand was not met.
Following the complaint, Telibandha police registered a case against the unknown sender under sections 308(4), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Raipur Police Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Shukla directed a quick investigation into the matter. Joint teams from the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit and Telibandha police station operated under the supervision of Additional Police Commissioner Amit Tukaram Kamble, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Cyber) Smritik Rajnala, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Tarkeshwar Patel.
Investigators analysed technical evidence, call details, and digital inputs connected to the international WhatsApp number. The team traced the links to Shoaib Dhebar, a resident of Flat 803-B, Palm Bellagio, Khamhardih, Raipur.
Police detained Dhebar, who confessed to sending the extortion messages during interrogation. Five iPhones valued at around ₹5 lakh were seized from his possession in connection with the crime.
