Union minister of state Savitri Thakur visits Durg women’s police station, reviews family counselling

Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur on Sunday visited the Women’s Police Station in Durg and reviewed the family counselling programme being run there, besides interacting with counsellors and families involved in domestic disputes.
Thakur reached the women’s police station at around 12.50pm during her scheduled programme on September 27. She was briefed about the functioning of the family counselling programme and the process followed by the police and counsellors in dealing with family-related disputes.
During the visit, Durg Senior Superintendent of Police discussed with the minister the need for additional rooms and other facilities at the women’s police station to expand arrangements for family counselling.
Thakur subsequently sat with the family counsellors to understand the counselling process and listened to the problems of families involved in disputes. She also offered suggestions aimed at resolving their issues.
The Durg Police also briefed the minister about its work relating to women’s safety, resolution of family disputes and counselling services. According to the police, Thakur appreciated the functioning of the women’s police station and the efforts being made for women’s safety and family counselling.
Durg rural MLA Lalit Chandrakar, BJP district presidents Surendra Kaushik and Purushottam Dewangan, the minister’s personal assistant Riya Singh, CSP Nevai Bharti Markam, Women’s Police Station in-charge inspector Neeta Rajput and family counsellors Ashok Joshi and Ratna Rani were present during the visit.
The Women’s Police Station has been undertaking counselling of families involved in disputes, listening to the concerns of the parties and providing necessary guidance as part of efforts to resolve family-related issues.
The Durg Police appealed to citizens facing family disputes to first attempt resolution through dialogue and legal counselling. It said people could approach the women’s police station and the police family counselling service for appropriate guidance when required.
