Raja Devendra Pratap Singh clinches uncontested victory to Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh

Raja Devendra Pratap Singh, the BJP nominee, secured an uncontested victory to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh, clinching a two-year tenure on Tuesday. With the deadline for withdrawal of nominations set for February 20, Singh emerged as the sole candidate from Chhattisgarh and was officially declared as a Rajya Sabha Member representing the state. The scrutiny of Singh’s nomination papers took place on February 16, confirming their validity.

Having submitted his nomination papers for the solitary Rajya Sabha seat from Chhattisgarh on February 14, Raja Devendra Pratap Singh’s candidacy was backed by the ruling BJP, which made the announcement on February 11. This decision was prompted by the impending expiration of Saroj Pandey’s tenure, the current Rajya Sabha MP from Chhattisgarh, scheduled for April.

Following his successful election to the Rajya Sabha, Devendra Pratap Singh conveyed his appreciation to Raman Singh, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, through a courtesy visit to his chamber on the Assembly premises on Tuesday. Raman Singh extended congratulations to Devendra Pratap Singh, presenting him with a bouquet of flowers and offering his best wishes. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brajmohan Agrawal also marked his presence on this significant occasion.

Hailing from a distinguished lineage as the grandson of Maharaja Chakradhar Singh in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, Raja Devendra Pratap Singh holds a notable position. The annual cultural extravaganza, ‘Chakradhar Samaroh’, held in Raigarh in honor of Maharaja Chakradhar Singh, further underscores the historical significance of his lineage. Having previously held pivotal roles within the BJP, the newly elected Rajya Sabha Member brings a wealth of experience to his new position.
