Home Minister proposes interdepartmental committee for police allowance increase

Raipur
In the Assembly on Thursday, Home Minister Vijay Sharma announced the formation of an interdepartmental committee to consider increasing the allowances of police personnel.
Congress MLA Chaturi Nanda raised concerns about the allowances and promotions for police personnel. She pointed out that many constables, inspectors, and chief inspectors in the police remain in the same position for about 10 to 15 years without any promotion, so she inquired whether their promotions will be expedited.
Home Minister Sharma responded to this, but Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh asked him to provide clarification. The Speaker emphasized that Chaturi Nanda’s question was quite clear. He asked whether there were any plans to revise the rent, allowances, allowances for nutritious food, or any other allowances.
The Speaker inquired whether these allowances would be revised. He questioned whether a team would be formed in the future to submit a report if the allowances had not increased in 10-10 years, and whether there was a desire to increase them based on that report.
The Home Minister informed the House that an interdepartmental committee was being formed by the department. This committee would reassess the allowances, following which the determination of allowances would be made. He stated that progress had been made in this process, and regarding promotions, action is taken every year.
Following this, former Minister Kavasi Lakhma questioned the Home Minister about the situation in Bastar, where areas are affected by Naxalism and soldiers are stationed, but there is a lack of electricity and housing. He inquired whether the government had any plans to build housing in every police station area.
As soon as Lakhma asked this, BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar questioned when he started speaking in favor of the police. Angered by this, Kavasi Lakhma retorted, questioning whether the police did not belong to them and whether they were only recruited by them. He instructed Chandrakar to remain silent.
The former minister further highlighted issues such as soldiers not having access to drinking water and facing mosquito problems. He pointed out that those with political connections are transferred every 5 years, while poor tribals, Satnami, and backward class soldiers remain stationed for 20-20 years. In response, the Home Minister stated that this question was not relevant.
