Chhattisgarh Government’s ten-week report: Progress in Naxal-affected areas and welfare initiative

Raipur
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma shed light on the government’s achievements and budget allocation, particularly focusing on the Naxal-affected areas of Bastar, during a discussion on budget allocation in the Assembly on Tuesday. Despite being in power for only ten weeks, significant progress has been made, notably with the establishment of fifteen camps in these troubled regions. Additionally, a camp has been inaugurated in Tekulgudam, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers in previous confrontations.
One of the critical initiatives highlighted by Deputy Chief Minister Sharma is the formation of peace committees at the district level to foster collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities. This collaborative approach aims to address security challenges effectively and ensure the protection of human rights, an area where the government is committed to making significant strides.
Moreover, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the need to uphold the dignity of the police force, acknowledging the challenges they face and pledging to enhance their morale. Plans are underway to transfer officers and employees in Bastar while cracking down on illicit drug trade, a significant contributor to criminal activities in the region.
Addressing concerns about the state’s correctional facilities, Deputy Chief Minister Sharma outlined plans to improve conditions within jails and focus on the rehabilitation and skill development of prisoners. Efforts are being made to integrate technology, such as mobile apps for tenant information and a prison calling system, to streamline operations and enhance communication between inmates and their families.
In terms of welfare initiatives, the government is committed to supporting self-help groups and empowering women through platforms akin to popular food delivery apps. Financial assistance to these groups will be expedited, and steps will be taken to ensure their products reach a wider market.
On the budgetary front, significant allocations have been made for housing schemes, with provisions for the construction of nearly 48,000 houses based on demographic surveys. Additionally, ambitious projects like the Anupurak Yojana and the establishment of CGIIIT aim to bolster education and innovation in the state.
Furthermore, Deputy Chief Minister Sharma announced plans for the development of Raipur Science City, positioning Chhattisgarh as a pioneer in scientific research and education. The proposed astronaut park and planetarium underscore the government’s commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and education among its citizens.
Overall, the Deputy Chief Minister’s address underscores the government’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges, enhancing law enforcement capabilities, and promoting socio-economic development through strategic budget allocation and innovative initiatives.
