Chhattisgarh to Start First Phase of Census 2027 from May 1, Focus on House Listing & Digital Self-Enumeration

Raipur: The first phase of Census 2027, focusing on house listing and housing census, will be conducted across Chhattisgarh from 1 May to 30 May 2026.

This 30-day exercise is a critical part of the census process, aimed at collecting detailed data on residential and non-residential buildings, their condition, usage, and available amenities.

Under the Digital India initiative, the government has introduced a self-enumeration option for citizens. Interested individuals can register details of their families and houses through a dedicated online portal between 16 April and 30 April 2026.

Those opting for self-enumeration will receive a unique ID, which must be shared with the enumerator during their visit for verification. The director of census operations, Chhattisgarh, has urged citizens to participate in this national exercise.

The enumerators will collect information on building numbers, construction type (kucha, pucca, or semi-pucca), and the number of families. They will also record data on basic facilities such as drinking water, toilets, electricity, fuel types, and internet connectivity.

This data will help in the formulation of socio-economic policies, urban and rural development, and housing schemes.

Enumerators carrying official identity cards will visit every household during the designated period. Residents must provide accurate information, and those who have completed self-enumeration should provide their IDs to the visiting staff.

All data collected during the census will remain confidential and will be used solely for statistical purposes and policy formulation. Control rooms are being set up at the district, state, and national levels to monitor the process, with a helpline available for grievance redressal.
