Chhattisgarh raises sugarcane procurement price to Rs 425 per quintal, extends benefit to 2025-26 season

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has decided to procure sugarcane from farmers at Rs 425 per quintal at sugar factories, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced on Saturday following a meeting with a delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh.

The revised rate will also apply to sugarcane procured during the 2025-26 crushing season, with payments to farmers to be calculated at the enhanced rate, according to an official statement.

The decision was taken after the chief minister held discussions with representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh’s Chhattisgarh unit on various issues concerning farmers, including the interests of sugarcane growers.

The delegation included the organisation’s minister, Manish Sharma, general secretary Naveen Shesh, and other office-bearers and members. Deputy chief ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma were also present during the meeting.

Sai said the state government was committed to improving farmers’ incomes, ensuring better returns for their produce and making agriculture a more remunerative occupation. He said the prosperity of farmers was fundamental to the state’s overall development and that the government was giving priority to issues affecting the farming community.

Referring to the efforts of the Centre and the state government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Sai said initiatives were being undertaken to increase farmers’ incomes, reduce agricultural costs and improve the profitability of farming.

He emphasised that farmers played a crucial role in the state’s economy and rural prosperity, adding that stronger agriculture would contribute to stronger villages and the overall development of Chhattisgarh.

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh delegation thanked the chief minister for the decision, saying the revised procurement rate would benefit sugarcane growers and ensure better returns for their produce.
