BJP appoints Vijay Sharma as Bihar Rajya Sabha observer

Raipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma as a central observer for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar. The decision is part of the party’s strategy to oversee electoral processes across several states where biennial polls are scheduled.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin has tasked Vijay Sharma with coordinating and monitoring the election process alongside Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra. The two leaders are expected to oversee the party’s strategy and electoral activities in Bihar, ensuring smooth coordination with the state unit.

Strategic coordination

The observers will hold meetings with senior BJP leaders and legislators in Bihar to finalise the party’s approach for the Upper House contest. According to party sources, the leadership has relied on the organizational experience of these senior leaders to manage the process in key states.

The Rajya Sabha polling for 37 seats across 10 states, including five seats in Bihar, is scheduled for 16 March 2026. The counting of votes will be conducted on the same day at 5 pm.

Apart from the appointments in Bihar, the BJP has named Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi as the observer for Haryana and Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule for Odisha.
