Raigarh Police Act Against Youth for Brandishing Air Gun in Social Media Reel

Raipur:
The Raigarh Police have initiated legal proceedings against a 33-year-old youth for posting a social media reel in which he was seen brandishing a weapon-like air gun in public.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP Shashi Mohan Singh) directed the Kharsia and Dharamjaygarh police units to take swift action after an Instagram reel from the account ‘didar.Ali.927’ surfaced. The video showed the youth displaying the weapon on a public road, which police noted could create fear among the general public.
Following the SSP’s instructions, Additional SP Anil Soni and SDOP Kharsia Prabhat Patel identified the individual as Didar Ali, a resident of Ward No. 09, Purani Basti, Kharsia. Investigations revealed that Ali was staying at his brother-in-law’s house in Beharapara, Dharamjaygarh, where the video was filmed.
A joint team led by TI Amit Tiwari questioned the youth. During interrogation, Didar Ali, son of Nishar Ali, admitted that the weapon used in the video was a pellet-based air gun. Although such air guns do not require a licence, police stated that displaying them as lethal weapons in public spaces and on social media is a violation of public peace and law and order.
The Dharamjaygarh Police have taken preventive action under Sections 126 and 135(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The youth was also given a stern warning against engaging in such activities in the future.
SSP Shashi Mohan Singh said that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to spread fear or panic by displaying weapons on social media platforms. He urged youth to use social media responsibly and avoid activities that disturb law and order.
The Raigarh Police Social Media Monitoring Cell is maintaining a constant vigil on digital platforms.
