Chhattisgarh Offers Higher Incentives for Naxalites to Surrender

Raipur

In Naxal-affected Chhattisgarh, the government will now offer greater incentives to Naxalites who renounce violence and return to the mainstream of society. Under the new Naxalite surrender policy formulated under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, those who surrender in groups will not only receive double the announced reward amount but will also facilitate developmental works worth ₹1 crore in gram panchayats declared Naxal-free.

If 80% or more active members of any formation unit of a Naxalite organization collectively surrender, they will be given double the reward amount declared against them. Additionally, in highly Naxal-affected districts such as Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Kanker, if all active Naxal and militia members in a gram panchayat area surrender and the area is declared Naxal-free, development projects worth ₹1 crore will be sanctioned for that region.

Under the new policy, if both husband and wife surrender, they will be considered as separate units and will be eligible for individual benefits under the rehabilitation schemes. However, if any scheme considers them as a single unit, benefits will be provided accordingly. The reward amount for each will be determined separately.

Relief and assistance amounts for surrendered Naxalites will be provided from the budget of the Home Department. It will be the responsibility of the District Collector to ensure that the entire amount is disbursed to the individual within 10 days of surrender. If a surrendered Naxalite has existing criminal cases registered, the Cabinet Sub-Committee may consider dropping those cases based on their contribution to Naxal eradication and good conduct over a six-month period.
