Raipur
Chhattisgarh took firm control of their Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, thanks to a spectacular unbeaten 203 by Captain Amandeep Khare. The visitors ended day two in a dominant position, amassing 578 for seven at stumps.
After winning the toss and electing to bat on Friday in Rajkot, Chhattisgarh’s batters capitalized on the favorable conditions. Opener Ayush Pandey laid the foundation with a solid 52, while Anuj Tiwari added 44. At the close of day one, Chhattisgarh were well-placed at 236 for two, with Sanjeet Desai (87*), and Captain Khare (57*) anchoring the innings. Saurashtra’s seven bowlers struggled to break the partnership, which proved to be a turning point in the match.
On day two, the Chhattisgarh batsmen continued their onslaught. Desai went on to score a magnificent 146, adding 238 runs for the third wicket with Khare, before being dismissed. Khare remained at the crease, showcasing his resilience and shot-making ability throughout the day. This innings marked Chhattisgarh’s fifth 500-plus score in Ranji Trophy history, having previously achieved 586 against Services, 559 against Jharkhand, 531 against Goa, and 520 against Uttarakhand.
Khare formed crucial partnerships that further strengthened Chhattisgarh’s position, including an 89-run stand with Eknath Kerkar (50) and a 116-run partnership with Shubham Agrawal, who also chipped in with a valuable 52.
Saurashtra’s bowlers toiled hard, with limited success. Navneet, D Jadeja, and Parth each managed to claim two wickets, but the relentless Chhattisgarh batting lineup kept piling on the runs, leaving Saurashtra facing an uphill battle as the match progresses.
