Vice-President Urges AIIMS Raipur Graduates to Combine Medical Excellence with Compassion, Embrace AI
RAIPUR: Calling on young doctors to make empathy, compassion, integrity and inclusivity the foundation of medical excellence, Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday urged AIIMS Raipur graduates to remain lifelong learners, embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and telemedicine, and use their skills to address healthcare challenges, particularly those confronting underserved communities.
Radhakrishnan was addressing the third convocation of AIIMS Raipur, where 689 students received degree certificates after completing academic programmes across various disciplines of medical and health sciences. Sixteen meritorious students were also presented awards for outstanding academic achievement.
The Vice-President, who was the chief guest at the ceremony held at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, congratulated the graduating students and appreciated AIIMS Raipur’s contribution to medical education, research, innovation and patient care.
He stressed that professional excellence in medicine must go beyond knowledge and technical competence and be guided by compassion and commitment to society. He also encouraged young doctors to continuously update their knowledge and adapt to emerging technologies, including telemedicine and artificial intelligence.
The convocation was attended by Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka as the guest of honour. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel, Chhattisgarh Health and Medical Education Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, and MP Brijmohan Agrawal were the special guests.
Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Handa, President, AIIMS Raipur, and Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (retd), Executive Director, AIIMS Raipur, welcomed the dignitaries.
Governor Deka extended his best wishes to the graduates and highlighted AIIMS Raipur’s emergence as a centre of excellence in medical education, quality healthcare and research. He referred to the institute’s 36th position in the NIRF rankings and its recognition in the Newsweek World’s Best Hospitals 2026 rankings, describing these achievements as reflecting its growing national and international stature.
Deka also appreciated the institute’s advanced infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, compassionate patient care, and implementation of Ayushman Bharat and other healthcare initiatives.
Anupriya Patel congratulated the graduates and appreciated AIIMS Raipur’s contribution to quality healthcare, medical education and research. Referring to initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, PM-JAY, ABHA and e-Sanjeevani, she urged the graduates to combine professional excellence with compassion and ethics, while contributing to preventive healthcare, research and service to underserved communities.
Lt Gen Jindal highlighted the institute’s progress and achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards in medical education, research, innovation and patient-centred healthcare. He encouraged the graduates to put their knowledge and professional skills to use in the service of society and the nation.
The convocation marked the beginning of a new professional journey for the graduating students, with a call to serve the nation and humanity with knowledge, compassion and excellence.
