The Bilaspur Municipal Corporation team impounded 47 stray cattle from High Court Road and other parts of the city on Tuesday as part of a special drive to clear public roads of roaming livestock.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Prakash Kumar Sarvey directed teams to conduct special drives during both day and night to remove cattle from public roads. So far this season, the civic body has caught 1,860 stray cattle to prevent road accidents and ensure the safety of livestock.
The impounded cattle are being shifted to shelters at Jaitpuri and Rahangi Godham, along with municipal gothans in Mopka and Sirgitti.
Along with catching stray animals, municipal officials are also counselling cattle owners against releasing their livestock onto public streets.
Commissioner Sarvey issued strict directions to take action against cattle owners under Section 358(2) of the Municipal Corporation Act. The administration warned that repeat offenders who continue to release livestock on public roads despite warnings and fines will face penal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Commissioner Prakash Kumar Sarvey said, “Cattle owners must not leave their livestock outdoors. They should keep their animals within private premises and arrange proper fodder and water.”
