Chhattisgarh Board Introduces ‘Two Exam’ System for Board Examinations

Raipur
Students preparing for board examinations now have a second opportunity to pass their exams. Previously known as supplementary exams, this new approach is being referred to as the ‘two exam’ system. The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) has also released a notification regarding this change.
The Chhattisgarh Board is looking for feedback from students and parents on this new system until June 9 to consider their suggestions for implementation.
Initially, there was talk of launching the two-exam system starting from the 2025-26 session. However, the department is now planning to implement this rule from the upcoming 2024-25 session. Detailed guidelines will follow based on the suggestions received.
From now on, students in Chhattisgarh will have two chances to sit for their board exams. The second exam will take place in June. This offers another opportunity for students who failed, missed the supplementary exams, or were absent for any reason during the first exam. The aim is to prevent students from losing an entire year.
Under this new system, if a student receives a supplementary result or fails in two subjects in the first exam, they can take the second exam for those subjects. They also have the option to retake exams in all subjects to improve their overall score.
“If a student fails in a subject in the second exam, which they had already passed in the first exam, they will still be considered passed based on the first exam’s result,” the board’s notification states. Experts believe that the new system will merge the supplementary exams with the second exam.
Several rules accompany this two-exam system. Only students who registered for the first exam can apply for the second exam. The subjects for both the first and second exams must remain the same, with no subject changes allowed. Applications for the second exam will be submitted after the first exam.
Students who receive a supplementary or fail result can apply for the second exam. Those looking to improve their category can also submit applications. Additionally, students who missed the first exam after applying will be eligible to sit for the second exam. The final result will be based on the highest marks obtained in each subject across both exams.
