Three of Family Electrocuted in Baloda Bazar; Woman Succumbs to Burn Injuries During Treatment

Raipur: Diwali celebrations turned into a nightmare for a family in Baloda Bazar, where three members lost their lives after coming in contact with a high-tension power line while attempting to save one another. The mother, who had suffered severe burn injuries in the incident, died during treatment on Saturday morning, a day after her husband and son were electrocuted.

The incident took place on Friday morning when Rakesh Gupta, a resident of Nehru Chowk, was cleaning his house. During the process, he reportedly came in contact with a high-tension electricity wire passing barely five feet from the building.

Hearing his screams, his wife Varsha and son Eeshan rushed to rescue him but were also caught in the electric current. Rakesh Gupta and Eeshan died on the spot, while Varsha sustained severe burn injuries.

She was initially rushed to the district hospital, where she received emergency treatment. Considering her critical condition, she was later shifted to a private hospital in Raipur. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning.

The tragic incident has left the entire neighbourhood in shock. The family was wiped out in the accident just ahead of Diwali, turning the festive atmosphere into mourning.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced and is widely circulating. The footage reportedly shows sparks and flames erupting from the high-tension wire and spreading towards the balcony of the Gupta residence, triggering panic among nearby residents.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
