Businessman in Chhattisgarh Liquor Scam Case Threatens Suicide in Court, Supporters Gather Outside

Dispatch News.
The ED team presented businessman Anwar Dhebar in court on Wednesday in connection with the Rs 2,000 crore liquor scam in Chhattisgarh. Anwar Dhebar threatened to commit suicide in front of the judge, alleging harassment by the ED. The ED has extended Anwar Dhebar’s remand by five days.
On Wednesday, Anwar Dhebar told the judge that the ED was harassing and pressuring him to name the CM and his family members. “If this continues, I will commit suicide, and the ED will be responsible for it,” he said. The ED presented Ajay Singh Rajput in court after a four-day remand for businessman Anwar Dhebar. Along with this, they also produced hotelier Nitesh Purohit in court.
Businessman Nitesh Purohit, arrested by the ED in this case, was also produced in court, where his health suddenly deteriorated. Following this, the court directed to take him to AIIMS for treatment. Nitesh Purohit is a hotel businessman and has connections to Hawala.
People flocked to the courthouse to show their support for Anwar Dhebar. The police stopped people who had gathered outside due to the crowd. The ED apprehended Anwar Dhebar five days ago. According to a press release by the ED, Anwar Dhebar has links to a Rs 2,000 crore liquor scam in the state. He is the brother of Raipur’s mayor, Ejaz Dhebar hence, the crowd of supporters on the court premises.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has said that as the elections approach, the frustration of the BJP is increasing. They are hatching a conspiracy to defame the state government through ED. The CM said, “I had already said that the ED and IT will remain here permanently, and as soon as the elections are held, these people will hatch new conspiracies.”
The Raman government decided to sell liquor through the Liquor Tax Corporation in 2017. Central Excise received about 3,900 crores in 2017-18. During our reign, it increased to 6,000 crores. Secondly, in 2017, there was no change in distillers, businesspeople, transporters, or placement agencies related to the liquor business.
The continuous increase in excise shows that the allegation made by the ED about some so-called scam and reduction in the state’s liquor revenue is a fabrication.
The CM said, “The CAG is a department of the Government of India and has given a clean chit to the Excise Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh in its audit. In February 2020, the Income Tax team raided persons of the Excise Department. At that time, there was also a lot of hue and cry through the media that they found a note-counting machine and property worth crores. But the IT department could not issue a press release because they found nothing.”
Then, in March 2023, after 13 months, the ED raided again, but they were embarrassed and did not issue any press releases.
