Suspended IAS Officer Ranu Sahu and SAS Officer Soumya Chaurasia Remanded in Liquor Scam Case

Suspended IAS officer Ranu Sahu and State Administrative Services (SAS) officer Soumya Chaurasia were presented in Raipur’s special court on Thursday in connection with the ongoing liquor scam case. The court has granted the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) a four-day remand of both officers. The EOW had initially requested a 15-day remand, but the court limited it to four days. This period will allow the EOW to interrogate the accused on multiple points until May 27. Previously, both Ranu Sahu and Soumya Chaurasia were held in Raipur Central Jail.

During the hearing, the defense counsel argued that the EOW’s application for remand was submitted post-arrest and requested an unjustified extension until June 5. The defense strongly opposed the remand, noting that in a similar case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) involving coal, one individual had already been granted bail. Ranu Sahu’s bail application is pending in the Supreme Court, and Soumya Chaurasia’s bail hearing is scheduled in the High Court. Despite these circumstances, the officers are being re-arrested without substantial evidence to support the extended remand request. Furthermore, there had already been a three-day interrogation period previously. Despite these arguments, the court proceeded to grant the EOW a four-day remand.
