Raipur: Police have registered a case after a man was allegedly cheated of Rs 2 lakh on the promise of securing him a government job and was handed a forged appointment letter purportedly for the post of data entry operator in the Chhattisgarh State Seeds and Agricultural Development Corporation Limited.
The case was registered at Telibandha police station under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 338 and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after Raipur resident Vinod Kumar Verma complained about the alleged use of forged documents showing his appointment to the government corporation.
During the investigation, police questioned Hemant Sahu, a resident of Kasdol, whose statement allegedly provided crucial leads and brought the name of Krishna Awasthi, 53, of Risda village under Palari police station in Balodabazar district, to the fore.
According to police, Awasthi had allegedly taken Rs 2 lakh from Sahu on the assurance of getting him a government job. In return, he allegedly handed over a fake appointment certificate.
Police said Awasthi is already lodged in jail in connection with another case registered at Palari police station under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 337, 338, 340(2) and 3(5) of the BNS.
Since he is currently in judicial custody in that case, police will seek court permission to question him in connection with the Telibandha case and undertake further investigation.
Investigators are examining the fake appointment letter, other documents and evidence collected so far. Police are also probing the possible involvement of other persons in the alleged fraud.
