A shocking incident unfolded at the Chhattisgarh Police Headquarters in Nava Raipur when a Company Commander (Inspector) of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force took his own life by shooting himself. Preliminary investigations have revealed a disturbing detail – the Inspector had been involved in a heated argument with a fellow police officer just two days prior to the incident.
According to reports, the dispute between the Inspector, Anil Singh Gahavar, and his colleague had escalated to physical violence. Following this altercation, Gahavar had filed a complaint at the Rakhi Police Station. However, no action was taken on his complaint.
The incident of the physical altercation is reported to have taken place on December 27. While confirming the complaint, the Station House Officer, Ajit Singh, stated that he was unaware of the specifics of the complaint. Gahavar had reportedly filed a complaint with the station staff, mentioning the dispute with his colleague. However, the SHO did not provide any details regarding the nature of the complaint or the reasons behind the lack of police action.
The deceased, Anil Singh Gahavar, was a resident of Satna, Madhya Pradesh, and was approximately 46 years old. He was posted at the Chhattisgarh Police Headquarters and was a part of the battalion tasked with the security of the PHQ. On the evening of the incident, he shot himself in the head with his service revolver inside his barracks.
When the sound of the gunshot was heard, fellow officers rushed to the scene and found Gahavar’s body near his bed. The forensic team, which arrived at the scene, discovered blood splatter on the wall and bloodstains inside the room. The door to the room was found locked from the inside and had to be forced open.
Gahavar had joined the Chhattisgarh Armed Force as a constable and had risen through the ranks to become a Company Commander. He was reportedly awarded an out-of-turn promotion for his bravery and service in anti-Naxal operations. Gahavar is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. The Rakhi police are currently investigating the matter.
