Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel accused the BJP of protecting the Mahadev Satta App, alleging the ruling party’s inaction. “We acted against the app, hence the raids,” he stated at a Raipur press conference, following CBI raids across Chhattisgarh, including his residence and those of former officials.
Baghel claimed the app’s operators, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, enjoy impunity in Dubai, despite ED’s false arrest claims. He asserted their protection by Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah, citing the app’s continued operation and the state government’s inaction since the Congress’s 2023 electoral loss.
He highlighted the Congress government’s 2022 actions: registering 74 cases, arresting 200+ people, freezing 2000+ bank accounts, and amending the Gambling Act. Baghel noted their role in removing the app from the Google Play Store and urging central action, leading to a Home Ministry look-out notice.
Baghel criticized the ED for targeting him post-takeover, citing raids on his aides and alleged framing attempts. He questioned the CBI’s current pursuit, asking why he’d initiate action if he intended protection.
He pointed to Chandrakar and Uppal’s alleged Vanuatu citizenship, hindering extradition, contrasting it with the government’s swift action against Lalit Modi. Baghel also cited RTI data showing no Indian consulate action on their arrest.
Baghel condemned the CBI’s raid on his Raipur residence in his absence, alleging a lack of notification and consent, and accusing them of theatrical behavior. He also cited the absence of female officers during his Bhilai residence raid, calling it a human rights violation.
