Man arrested for wife’s murder after four-month manhunt in Raigarh

Raipur
Raigarh police arrested Kartik Ram Pahadi Korwa on 29 August 2026 for allegedly murdering his 30-year-old wife, Nanki Bai Pahadi Korwa, in June 2026. The accused, who had fled to Tamil Nadu after the incident, was nabbed under “Operation Clean Hunt” upon his return to his native village, Gudaama Inchpara Pelma.

According to police, the incident occurred on 3 June 2026, when the couple was returning from Ghoghra market. A dispute broke out between the two near the Gada Ghutra forest-hilly path after both consumed liquor. In a fit of rage, Kartik assaulted his wife with fists, a wooden stick, and stones, causing fatal injuries to her head, face, and body.

Kapu police initiated an inquiry following an MRG intimation registered on 4 June 2026. The post-mortem report confirmed the death as homicidal, following which police registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused evaded arrest for nearly four months by hiding in Tamil Nadu without using a mobile phone. Acting on a tip-off received by Kapu police station in-charge Inspector Dharmaram Tirkey regarding the accused’s return to his village, a police team cordoned off the area and took him into custody.

During interrogation, Kartik confessed to the crime. Police recreated the crime scene and recovered the stick and stones used in the offense based on his disclosure statement.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh stated that police teams are actively pursuing absconding offenders under the ongoing special drive. The operation was executed under the guidance of Additional SP Anil Soni and SDOP Dharamjaigarh Siddhant Tiwari.
