Alleged Rs 411 Crore Scam in CGMSC: MD, GM Among 5 Arrested, Machines Worth Rs 5 Lakh Purchased for Rs 17 Lakh; EOW Gets 7-Day Remand

Raipur: In the alleged Rs 411 crore scam case involving Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation (CGMSC), five officials, including General Manager Vasant Kaushik, Deputy Director of the Health Department Dr. Anil Parsai, Shiroundra Rawatia, Kamalkant Patanwar, and Deepak Bandhe, have been sent on a seven-day remand to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). The accused will remain in EOW custody until March 28 and were presented before a special court in Raipur today.

All five officials were summoned to the EOW office on Friday for questioning, following which they were arrested late in the evening. The investigation has revealed shocking irregularities, including the purchase of an EDTA tube worth Rs 8 for Rs 2,352 and a CBS machine priced at Rs 5 lakh being bought for Rs 17 lakh.

Shashank Chopra, director of Mokshit Corporation, is already in judicial custody in connection with the CGMSC scam. The scandal has allegedly caused a loss of Rs 411 crore to the government, with IAS and IFS officers reportedly colluding to make purchases worth Rs 750 crore within just 27 days. Several companies, including CGMSC officials, Mokshit Corporation, Records and Medicare Systems, Shri Sharda Industries, and CB Corporation, were involved in inflating procurement costs. Additionally, Rs 300 crore worth of reagents were purchased by the Medical Services Corporation.

How Was the CGMSC Scam Exposed?

In December 2024, former Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar filed complaints regarding the scam with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Union Home Ministry, the CBI, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi. Following these complaints, the central government directed the EOW to investigate, leading to an FIR being registered against five individuals.
