Chhattisgarh Assembly monsoon session from July 13; five sittings scheduled

Raipur: The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly will be held from July 13 to July 17, with the Assembly Secretariat issuing the official notification and agenda for the five-day session comprising five sittings.
According to the schedule, the House will take up Question Hour and government business on each of the first four days. On the final day, July 17, proceedings will include Question Hour, government business and private members’ business during the last two hours of the sitting.
The session is expected to be politically charged, with the opposition preparing to target the state government on a range of issues, including law and order, farmers’ concerns, power and water supply, education, healthcare and several recent administrative decisions. The controversy surrounding the government’s directive on mantra chanting in schools is also likely to figure prominently during the debates.
Other issues expected to be raised by the opposition include alleged overcharging at liquor outlets, deforestation in the Hasdeo region, agrarian distress, civic grievances and various governance-related controversies that have surfaced in recent months.
The ruling BJP government, meanwhile, is expected to use the session to highlight its welfare initiatives, development programmes and administrative achievements, while responding to criticism from the opposition benches.
The Assembly Secretariat stated that financial business and other official legislative matters will be transacted during the session. Given its relatively short duration, opposition parties are likely to press for an extension of the proceedings to allow more time for discussion on key public issues.
With several contentious subjects on the agenda, the monsoon session is expected to witness sharp exchanges and intense debates between the treasury and opposition benches.
