Traditional Indian knowledge key to global welfare, says Prof. Rajeev Choudhary

Raipur: Traditional Indian knowledge systems, education, research, and yoga can help address modern lifestyle challenges and promote global welfare, renowned scholar Prof. Rajeev Choudhary said on Saturday.

Delivering a lecture on “Contribution of Indian Knowledge Tradition, Education, Research and Yoga in a Global Perspective” at a two-day international seminar, Prof. Rajeev Choudhary of Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, said India’s ancient education system was among the world’s most advanced and scientific traditions.

The event, jointly organized by Sanskrit University, Kathmandu (Nepal), Punjabi Sabha Moscow (Russia), and Vidya Vikas Mandal Arts and Commerce College, Akkalkuwa (Maharashtra), concluded on June 13, 2026.

Prof. Choudhary highlighted the rich heritage of the Magadha and Maurya periods and globally renowned ancient universities such as Taxila and Nalanda. He said the ancient Indian education system emphasized character building, ethical values, social responsibility, and practical life skills, rather than mere knowledge acquisition.

He stressed that in today’s knowledge-driven global society, high-quality research is essential. National progress, he said, depends on innovation, scientific temperament, and the promotion of originality, ethics, and scientific methodology to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Describing the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) as a priceless heritage of human civilization, Prof. Choudhary said it has made significant contributions to philosophy, mathematics, medicine, astronomy, environmental conservation, and spiritual development. He called for integrating traditional knowledge with modern science to enhance its global relevance.

Speaking on yoga, he described it as a scientific path to the holistic development of the body, mind, and spirit. Regular practice, he said, improves concentration, productivity, positive thinking, and stress management. The growing global acceptance of yoga reflects the enduring relevance of India’s knowledge traditions.

During the event, Prof. Choudhary was conferred with the “Lok Chetna Samman–2026” for his contributions to academics and research. The seminar also featured discussions on language, literature, culture, tribal studies, environment, business, and social identity from a global perspective.
