Raipur Civic Body Designates Feeding Zones for Stray Dogs Across 70 Wards

Raipur
Following a High Court order, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has designated specific feeding zones for stray dogs across all 70 wards of the city. The move aims to address frequent disputes between animal lovers and local residents over feeding stray animals.
The civic body has installed information boards at the identified locations, directing residents to feed stray dogs only within the designated feeding zones.
According to municipal officials, the initiative will help streamline the management and monitoring of stray dogs while reducing public conflicts related to animal feeding.
Open Spaces Identified for Feeding
The corporation has selected suitable locations across its 10 administrative zones, including local markets, open grounds, areas near ponds, community halls, cremation grounds, and vacant plots.
Residents can check the information boards installed in their areas or contact their respective zone offices for details about the designated feeding spots.
Action on Complaints to Continue
The municipal corporation clarified that the existing procedure for handling stray dog complaints will remain unchanged. Upon receiving complaints, civic teams will capture the dogs from the concerned areas and process them under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules.
The standard protocol includes de-worming, anti-rabies vaccination, and sterilisation before the animals are released back to their original locations.
The decision comes after multiple complaints and altercations in several neighbourhoods of the capital city, prompting judicial intervention and the establishment of a regulated feeding system for stray dogs.
