Supebeda to get clean drinking water as CM Vishnu Deo Sai approves ₹7 crore for anicut on Tel river

Raipur

Chronic kidney disease-hit Supebeda village is set to receive clean drinking water after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai approved ₹7 crore for the construction of an anicut on the Tel river. Reviewing good governance initiatives, the Chief Minister directed officials to complete the necessary paperwork before the onset of the monsoon.

In 2024, the BJP government sanctioned ₹8 crore for a group water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The project aims to draw water from the Tel river through an intake well, process it at a water treatment plant in Supebeda, and supply iron-free and fluoride-free clean drinking water to 2,074 families across nine villages. While the infrastructure is almost ready, ensuring an uninterrupted year-round water supply remained a major challenge because the scheme relies heavily on surface water.

The Tel river typically dries up after October, making it difficult to maintain adequate water levels throughout the year. Two years ago, a diaphragm wall was constructed just below the intake well at a cost of ₹2 crore, but it collapsed during the first monsoon. As a result, the water supply scheme required a more reliable and permanent solution.

Local public representatives expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for sanctioning the funds for the anicut, which is expected to ensure a permanent water source and strengthen safe drinking water access for the region.
