Deaf-Mute Couple Reunites After Counselling at Raipur Women’s Police Station

Raipur: A family on the verge of breaking apart found a new beginning after a counselling session at the Family Counselling Centre of the Women’s Police Station, Raipur, helped a deaf-mute couple resolve their differences and reunite.

The matter came to light on May 11, 2026, when Priti Sahu lodged a complaint against her husband, Vikas Kumar, citing marital discord.

As both husband and wife are deaf and mute, counsellors Purnima Tiwari and Krishna Ranjan Pal initially faced significant challenges in understanding their concerns and facilitating communication between them.

Recognizing the need for specialized assistance, Women’s Police Station In-Charge Inspector Archana Dhurandhar sought the help of sign language expert Jeenal Srivastava to ensure both parties could freely express themselves and be heard.

On May 31, Jeenal Srivastava joined the counselling session as an interpreter, enabling the counsellors to understand the grievances of both husband and wife. Through patient dialogue, mediation, and mutual understanding, the couple gradually worked through their differences and ultimately agreed to reconcile and continue their married life together.

Police officials said the timely intervention of Inspector Archana Dhurandhar, Sub-Inspector Sunita Kanwar, counsellors Purnima Tiwari and Krishna Ranjan Pal, and sign language expert Jeenal Srivastava played a crucial role in preventing the family from falling apart and helping the couple rediscover a path toward togetherness and family harmony.
