Raipur
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded Chhattisgarh sprinter Animesh Kujur‘s record-breaking performance and highlighted the state’s rich archaeological heritage during the 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai listened to the broadcast at his official residence-cum-transit hostel office along with public representatives and citizens. He said the Prime Minister’s recognition of Chhattisgarh’s sporting talent and cultural legacy on a national platform was a matter of pride for the state and thanked him for showcasing its achievements.
Animesh’s achievement praised
During the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with young sprinter Animesh Kujur and athlete Gurindervir Singh, noting that the national record in the men’s 100-metre sprint was broken three times within two days. He described the feat as an example of healthy competition and the growing standards of Indian athletics.
Hailing from Ghuithangar village in Jashpur district and an alumnus of Sainik School Ambikapur, Animesh recently clocked 10.15 seconds in the 100-metre event to set a new national record and secure qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking with the Prime Minister, Animesh recalled that his interest in athletics developed during the Covid-19 pandemic with encouragement from his friends. Referring to the athlete’s success, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said it reflected the immense potential of Chhattisgarh’s youth when provided with proper opportunities and support.
Focus on sports development
The Chief Minister also highlighted the Prime Minister’s message on sportsmanship, which emphasised competing not only for personal success but also for the progress of the nation, while encouraging fellow athletes.
Sai reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and ensuring quality training and opportunities for talented sportspersons across Chhattisgarh.
Malhar’s ancient legacy featured
The Prime Minister also referred to the recent discovery of rare copper plates at Malhar under the Gyan Bharatam Campaign.
Believed to be around 1,400–1,500 years old, the copper plates are associated with the Panduvanshi period, particularly the reign of Maharaja Balarjuna. Inscribed in ancient Brahmi script and Pali language, they offer valuable insights into the governance, culture and social life of the era.

Welcoming the recognition, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the state government remains committed to preserving and promoting Chhattisgarh’s historical, cultural and archaeological heritage. He added that national attention to such discoveries helps create greater public awareness about heritage conservation.
MLA Purandar Mishra, CGMSC chairman Deepak Mhaske and other public representatives were present during the programme.
