Western Disturbance, Multiple Troughs to Trigger Rain, Thunderstorms; Temperatures Likely to Dip

Raipur: A series of active weather systems across north and central India are set to influence conditions in the state, bringing the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, and a gradual drop in maximum temperatures over the coming days.

According to meteorological inputs, a Western Disturbance is positioned as a trough at an altitude of about 5.8 km near 66°E longitude and 30°N latitude. In addition, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

An east–west trough is also active, stretching from Haryana to Manipur at around 0.9 km altitude. Another trough / wind discontinuity runs from north Telangana to the Comorin region at a similar height. Further, an anticyclonic circulation lies over interior Maharashtra and adjoining Karnataka, extending between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above sea level.

Meteorologists said that moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal into the southern parts of the state at lower atmospheric levels is likely to trigger light rainfall or thundershowers at isolated places.

There is also a possibility of gusty winds accompanied by thunder and lightning at one or two locations across the state. The prevailing systems are expected to bring down daytime temperatures, marking the beginning of a cooling trend in maximum temperatures.
