Chhattisgarh Assembly to Hold Special Session on 30 April

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has convened a Special Session of the Legislative Assembly on 30 April. During this session, the government is expected to introduce a censure motion against the opposition, accusing them of obstruction related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao announced the details, stating that the session was requested by the government and the Speaker will decide its duration. He alleged that the Congress party and other opposition groups are denying women their constitutional rights, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring these rights.

Response to Mallikarjun Kharge

Sao strongly criticized Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks against the Prime Minister, calling them “unfortunate and condemnable.” He said such statements insult the Prime Minister and the 140 crore citizens of the country. He also highlighted the Prime Minister’s efforts against terrorism, separatism, and Naxalism.

Security and Bastar Visit Issue

On concerns raised by Congress over security during Sachin Tendulkar’s Bastar visit, Sao alleged that the opposition is trying to sustain Naxalism. He said Congress is politicizing an event meant to promote young athletes.

Religious Conversion Issue

On the demand to de-list tribal individuals who have converted to other religions, Sao said religious conversion remains a serious issue in the state. He stated that the government has adopted a strict approach, strengthening laws and taking prompt action, while also urging society to cooperate.

Congress Rebuttal

Former minister Shiv Dahariya questioned the legitimacy of the special session, saying it lacks democratic justification. He demanded that the opposition be allowed to present its views. He also accused the central government of undermining democracy and failing to implement the Women’s Reservation Bill effectively.

He further questioned the cancellation of the Chief Minister’s participation in the Sachin Tendulkar event, linking it to security concerns and Naxal threats, and accused the government of contradictory claims regarding Naxal control.

Dahariya also criticized the Chief Minister’s helpline, calling the government a “deceptive administration”, and alleged that thousands of applications from previous Jan Darshan programs remain unresolved.

Mahant Confirms Attendance

Leader of Opposition Dr. Charan Das Mahant confirmed that he will attend the Legislative Assembly session after receiving the official invitation.

He questioned the basis of the proposed censure motion, asking for clarity on its constitutional validity. Mahant said the opposition will actively participate in the debates and respond to the ruling party’s claims during the session.
