IPS Dr Santosh Kumar Singh’s Book on UN Peacebuilding Appreciated by NSA, PMO Principal Secretary

Raipur

Ajit Doval and Shaktikanta Das have appreciated a research-based book authored by Chhattisgarh cadre IPS officer Dr Santosh Kumar Singh.

The book, titled “Institutionalization of Peacebuilding: Functioning of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission in Sierra Leone & Burundi”, examines the institutional mechanisms developed by the United Nations (UN) to support peace restoration in conflict-hit regions.

High-Level Recognition

In a letter dated March 23, 2026, NSA Ajit Doval noted that the publication provides a detailed background on peacebuilding efforts envisioned after World War II. He emphasized that the current global environment, marked by multiple conflicts, requires a new approach, as the effectiveness of existing UN institutions faces growing challenges.

Similarly, in a letter dated March 12, 2026, Shaktikanta Das acknowledged the work and appreciated the effort behind producing a study that focuses on the transition from traditional peacekeeping to long-term peacebuilding frameworks.

Academic Contribution

Dr Santosh Kumar Singh, currently serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) at the Police Headquarters in Chhattisgarh, is a 2011-batch IPS officer. He holds a PhD from Hemchand Yadav University and an MPhil in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The book explores the functioning of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, established in 2005, which works to stabilize fragile states and rebuild institutions in post-conflict zones.

The research also highlights the significance of India’s role as a major contributor to global peace operations and offers valuable insights into achieving stability in domestic conflict areas.
