President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration organised by the Government of Chhattisgarh today at Ambikapur, Surguja.

Tribal Heritage and Democracy
Speaking at the event, the President affirmed that the contribution of tribal communities forms a glorious chapter in Indiaโs history. She highlighted that India is the mother of democracy, with examples visible in ancient republics and numerous tribal traditions, such as the โMuria Darbarโโa traditional people’s parliament in Bastar.

The President said tribal heritage has deep roots in various parts of the country, including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. She noted with satisfaction that the Chhattisgarh Government celebrated a Tribal Pride Fortnight from 1 to 15 November this year on a large scale.
Focus on Tribal Development Schemes
The President stressed that the government developed and implemented national-level schemes for the development and welfare of tribal communities over the past decade.
- Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan: Launched last year on Gandhi Jayanti, will benefit over 5 crore tribal citizens across the country. It aims to cover approximately 63,000 villages across 30 States/Union Territories.
- PM-JANMAN Abhiyan: The Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, launched in 2023, focuses on the social and economic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
- Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan: Launched during the 150th birth anniversary year of Bhagwan Birsa Munda to accelerate development efforts for tribal communities. Around 20 lakh volunteers are being created nationwide to ensure tribal development at the grassroots level. The initiative aims to build a cadre of change leaders for responsive governance in over 1 lakh tribal-dominated villages.
Shift from Extremism and Sports
The President expressed her happiness that people across the country, including in Chhattisgarh, are abandoning the path of Left Wing Extremism and joining the mainstream of development. She stated that the coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments will lead to the eradication of Left Wing Extremism in the near future.
She also praised the participation of more than 1.65 lakh individuals in the recently held โBastar Olympicsโ. The President expressed confidence that by following the ideals of tribal icons, the people of Chhattisgarh will contribute significantly to building a strong and self-reliant India.
