Over 4 Million Vehicles in Chhattisgarh to Get High-Security Registration Plates
Raipur
Over four million vehicles in Chhattisgarh will soon be equipped with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) as the Transport Department begins implementing this initiative across the state. Following a meeting at the department’s headquarters, officials issued directives for the mandatory installation of HSRPs, which are designed to enhance vehicle security and tracking. Vehicles equipped with these plates will feature three number plates, effectively eliminating the need for Fastag installation, marking a significant shift in vehicle identification and monitoring processes.
The department has set a target to fit all vehicles registered before April 2019 with HSRPs within 120 days. To ensure smooth execution, the task has been assigned to authorized companies, M/s Real Mazon India Limited and Rosmerta Safety System Limited. Non-compliance with this mandate will result in action under transport laws, although vehicle owners can apply for the plates conveniently through an online process made available by the department.
High-Security Registration Plates, mandated by the government, are a step forward in vehicular safety, offering more security compared to traditional number plates. These plates are part of a nationwide effort to make vehicle tracking and monitoring more effective, providing an additional layer of protection for vehicle owners. To streamline the installation process and achieve the set targets, the state has been divided into two operational zones. Zone A includes RTO offices in districts such as Raipur, Bilaspur, Sukma, and Janjgir-Champa, while Zone B covers areas like Raigarh, Durg, Dantewada, and Ambikapur.
The cost of HSRP installation varies depending on the type of vehicle, with two-wheelers being charged Rs 365.80, three-wheelers Rs 427.16, and light motor vehicles or passenger cars between Rs 656.08 and Rs 705.64, all inclusive of GST. Vehicles registered before 2019 will incur an additional Rs 100 for installation via automobile dealers, with further charges applicable for home delivery services. The plates will be strategically placed on vehicles for easy identification: two-wheelers will have plates near the shock absorber, tail light, and mudguard; three-wheelers will have them below the front windshield, tail light, and at the top or side of the windshield; and four-wheelers will have them below the front and tail lights and on the bonnet.
This initiative, directed by the Supreme Court and the Central Government, is part of a broader mandate to improve vehicle security and ensure better compliance with transport laws. Additional Transport Commissioner D. Ravishankar highlighted that the replacement of registration plates is expected to be completed within two months, in line with previously issued notifications. This move is expected to not only enhance vehicular safety but also bolster the state’s monitoring capabilities, contributing to a more secure and organized transportation ecosystem.
