Encounter on Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra Border: 5 Maoists Killed, 2 Jawans Injured and Airlifted to Raipur
Raipur
Five Maoists were neutralised by security forces near the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border adjoining Kanker and Narayanpur districts. The operation also resulted in injuries to two DRG (District Reserve Guard) personnel, who were airlifted to Raipur for treatment. Both are reportedly out of danger, confirmed Kanker SP IK Elesela.
The encounter took place during a major anti-Naxal operation launched to apprehend Naxal leader Abhay, a central committee member of the Maoist organization. Joint forces from Bastar’s DRG and Maharashtra’s C-60 commandos were involved in the operation.
DRG jawan Khileshwar Gawde sustained injuries to his arm and head while Hiraman Yadav sustained injuries to both legs.
Both are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Raipur.
The operation was initiated early Saturday morning following intelligence about Naxal presence in the dense forests of Northern Abujhmad near the border. The gunfight, which began at 8 AM, continued intermittently for three hours. Security forces recovered the bodies of five Naxalites and seized weapons. Additional forces, including C-60 commandos, were deployed along the Maharashtra border to prevent Naxals from escaping.
A month ago, security forces neutralized 31 Naxalites during a massive operation on the Dantewada-Narayanpur border, marking one of the most significant anti-Naxal operations in the state.
From January to November this year, 96 encounters between police and Naxalites have been reported in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the deaths of 189 Naxalites, including five senior cadres of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC). Security forces have recovered weapons such as AK-47s, SLRs, and INSAS rifles during these operations.
