Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns Amid NEET-UG Row, Sends Resignation to PM Modi

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post and submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET-UG examination and nationwide student protests.

Announcing his decision through a post on social media, Pradhan said that students’ future is above any controversy and that he was stepping down in the interest of maintaining public confidence in the education system.

In his resignation letter, Pradhan stated that he has dedicated more than four decades to students, teachers, and education reforms. He emphasized that a strong, inclusive, and future-oriented education system is the foundation of national development.

Referring to the recent developments, he highlighted the government’s efforts to improve the examination process, including CBI investigations into alleged irregularities, proposed examination reforms, and the expansion of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system. Despite these measures, he said he believes accepting moral responsibility is the appropriate course of action.

The resignation comes as protests over the NEET-UG controversy continue across the country, with students demanding accountability and transparency in the examination process. Demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and other locations have intensified political pressure on the government.

The Prime Minister’s Office has not yet issued an official statement regarding the resignation or whether it has been accepted.
