SSP Raipur’s Surprise Patrol: A Wake-Up Call Ensuring safety, evaluating police alertness
Raipur
During a night patrol inspection on his bike, Raipur’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Santosh Singh evaluated 51 patrolling points. He issued notices to several police personnel for negligence while commending others for their vigilance. The SSP also assessed the response time of emergency services.
The inspection was conducted following Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s directives to enhance night patrolling visibility. The SSP, accompanied by CSP Azad Chowk Aman Jha, initiated the patrol from Telibandha pond.
During the inspection, some officers were found neglecting their duties – either standing idle, conversing in dark areas, or browsing social media on their phones instead of monitoring public movement. The SSP issued notices to four personnel while promising appreciation letters to three officers who demonstrated alertness. He provided guidance on visible policing protocols and instructed teams to improve their response times.
To test emergency services, the SSP made a test call to Dial 112, reporting a fictional stabbing incident near Purani Basti Mahamaya Temple. The response team took 5 minutes to call back but reached the wrong location due to unclear coordinates. The local police station’s patrol team arrived in 8 minutes.
The SSP instructed all personnel to carry batons and directed armed officers to be stationed at city entry points. At various locations like Bhagat Singh Chowk, Fafadih Chowk, and Agrasen Chowk, he found officers not performing their duties properly. However, at DD Nagar Gole Chowk and Lakhenagar Chowk, officers were commended for their diligence. The inspection concluded with the SSP providing directives to officers and station in-charges about maintaining vigilance.
