SSP Honours Good Samaritans Who Saved Lives in Road Accident in Raipur

Appeal to Youth to Step Forward and Help Accident Victims

Raipur
The Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Santosh Kumar Singh, honoured the Good Samaritans who came forward to save lives in road accidents on the national highways, state highways, and other roads within the district. These individuals were awarded certificates of appreciation and shields for their efforts. The SSP also urged citizens to continue assisting accident victims.

Each month, the SSP recognizes Good Samaritans who help save lives during road accidents by awarding them certificates and shields. Additionally, to promote this initiative, hoardings are put up in prominent locations across the city, including the railway station, bus stand, Collectorate gate, and Marine Drive. On September 16, 2024, four Good Samaritans who saved lives during road accidents in August 2024 were honoured with certificates and shields.

It is worth noting that around 150,000 people die each year in road accidents in the country, primarily due to the lack of timely medical aid. The first 30 minutes following an accident, referred to as the “Golden Hour,” are critical for the injured. If a victim is taken to the hospital or provided with medical assistance during this period, 90% of lives can be saved. Unfortunately, many individuals hesitate to intervene, fearing legal complications, which often results in victims succumbing to their injuries at the scene. Recognizing this issue, the SSP has directed all police station in-charges in the district to promote the role of Good Samaritans and encourage those who help accident victims to come forward and receive recognition.

The Good Samaritans were honoured for their efforts are Kishan Verma (24), from Abhanpur, Raipur district, who saved a severely injured motorcycle rider and passenger during an accident near Abhanpur Underpass on July 25, 2024, by transporting them to the hospital in his own vehicle after ambulance delays.
Sanjay Kumar Sahu (25), also from Abhanpur, who assisted in the same incident by taking the injured to the hospital in his vehicle.
Nikki Koshle (24), from Birkoni village, Mahasamund district, who informed the police and transported a critically injured motorcycle rider to the CHC Mandir Hasaud after a hit-and-run incident near Mandir Hasaud on August 23, 2024.

Gautam Sahu (34), from Main Road, Urla, who called emergency services and helped two severely injured motorcyclists after a collision near Birgaon on the night of July 31, 2024.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Om Prakash Sharma and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Sushanto Banerjee were also present at the event.
