Rs 2000 cr liquor scam: Businessmen Anwar Dhebar, Nitesh Purohit sent on 14-day judicial remand

In a fresh development in the Rs 2000 crore liquor scam, businessman Anwar Dhebar, who is the brother of Congress Mayor of Raipur Aijaz Dhebar, and businessman Nitesh Purohit have been sent on 14 days judicial remand
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced Anwar Dhebar, Nitesh Purohit, Trilok Dhillon and Excise Department official AP Tripathi in the court in the liquor scam. Businessman Dhebar and Nitesh Purohit were sent to jail on judicial remand for 14 days after a day-long hearing in a special court in Raipur.
The court has sent the other accused in the case, businessmen Trilok Dhillon and AP Tripathi, to 4-day ED remand. The ED will interrogate these businessmen for four days, after which they will be produced in the court again.
After the raids in Chhattisgarh, the ED issued a press release informing about the liquor scam. The ED claims that between 2019 and 2022, a massive liquor scam took place in the state in which evidence of money laundering of Rs 2000 crore has been found.
The ED has revealed in its investigation that Anwar Dhebar is running a syndicate in Chhattisgarh, and it has the support of senior officers apart from senior leaders. A network has been created that illegal recovery was being done on every bottle of liquor sold in Chhattisgarh. ED has taken action under the Money Laundering Act.
Earlier in the court, Anwar Dhebar threatened to commit suicide in front of the judge alleging harassment by the ED. Dhebar told the judge that the ED was harassing him and pressurizing him to name the CM and his family members.
Raipur mayor Aijaz Dhebar was called for questioning by ED 12 days back. Taking a press conference outside the ED office, the mayor said that he has nothing to do with liquor, coal or sand. “If anything is recovered from my mobile or house, I will retire from politics,” he told media persons.
